To Live & Die in AmeriKKKa Inequality, Rage, Sorrow and Despair
Ignorance and racism: One breeds the other. Will you do your part to remove both?
Every day we hear of death in our neighborhoods. No matter if it is by the police or by our own hands. We are burying our people in record numbers and no one seems to have an answer. Not the so-called leaders, not the police. No one. I wish I knew.
This is my attempt to put the word out so that someone, somewhere just might.
The winner for contest #1 is Marisa Johnson of Shreveport, Louisiana!!!
This is the quote that stopped the show…
“I have for the first time found what I can truly love–I have found you. You are my sympathy–my better self–my good angel–I am bound to you with a strong attachment. I think you good, gifted, lovely: a fervent, a solemn passion is conceived in my heart; it leans to you, draws you to my centre and spring of life, wrap my existence about you–and, kindling in pure, powerful flame, fuses you and me in one.”
― Charlotte Brontë, Jane Eyre

In our minds, everyone should know who he is, but for formal intros…his name is Joey Pinkney. He writes and maintains JoeyPinkney.com. Featuring book reviews and interviews to create exposure for authors. Joey started his famous website in June of 2006. In the beginning, it was something constructive for him to do with his obsession with the internet, but it has morphed into something far greater.
Steamy Trails Publishing thinks he has done an amazing job of executing his passion. Today we are happy to spend a few minutes with Joey for what we are calling 5 Minutes of Off the Cuff Questions with Joey Pinkney!
STP – What is your favorite word?
JP – My favorite word… So many to choose from… I’ll go with platypus because it perfectly fits the animal.
STP – What sound do you hate?
JP – I absolutely hate the sound of metal scratching across metal or fingernails scratching across a chalkboard. That sound is definitely flesh-crawl-material. It’s even worse when I’m cold.
STP – What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?
JP – I watched this documentary named “Somme”. I’m not a wine drinker like that. What made this documentary so compelling and interesting is the intensity. The pursuit of becoming a sommelier is all about the level of accuracy in which you can describe the in in just a few swishes.
Sommeliers have to be able to tell you what fruit is in the wine, what wood it was fermented in, what region of the world it came from, what year it was bottled. All from a quarter of a mouthful of wine.
It was also interesting that few pass the test to become a sommelier which is held once a year in France. Even the few that don’t pass can gain very important, highly-regarded positions in the upper echelon restaurant industry.
STP – If Heaven exists what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?
JP – “I understand.”
STP – What is your addiction?
JP – One of my addictions is chocolate. It tastes good. It feels good. I can eat pounds of it. Pounds…. I can eat it late at night. I can eat it before I have breakfast. I can eat it in a box. I can eat it with a fox.
STP – Who are your heroes (real or in film)?
JP – My heroes are my mother and my father. My mother being my hero goes without saying. She is calm, patient, direct. Most of the time soft-spoken. When she does have to make a point that might not sit well to the person she is making it to, it’s always done respectfully.
My father is my hero because he’s been through a lot but still sticks to his guns, his opinions and lives his life as best as he can. We rarely agree, and I’m cool with that. If I’m going to be putting a man on a pedestal, I want it to be a real man and my father.
STP – What’s your superpower, or what’s your spirit animal?
JP – My superpower is my eclectic memory. I am able to connect various, seemingly unrelated bits of information into a cohesive factoid. I am able to pull up facts that are accurate that I don’t remember when I took the time to learn it.
STP – What questions do you have for us? (only ask 2 lol)
JP – What are you doing with your life?
STP – 1: Everything required of me
2: Help people (one at a time) to realize that being kind and giving is not a hoax…it’s a thing!
and 3: Be the best wife, momma, daughter, sister and friend that will leave THEE MOST awesome table talk of my life when I am no-longer here.
JP – What do you like the most about reading?
STP – I love the power reading gives me. Through reading I can learn, think, travel and use my imagination to no measure, thus reading makes me feel powerful, rich and limitless.
Okay…give us back the mic, Joey!
STP – What’s your vision of a perfect society?
JP – A perfect society would be one that truly respects the different cultures that comprise it. Not that everyone would have to agree with the next person’s philosophies, but one where capitalism doesn’t cause one group to covertly undermine another group’s wealth and freedom of expression.
STP – Why do you do what you do?
JP – I help authors and deal with books because that is my purpose.
