Concrete Dreams by Eddie Sharpe

Hello Steamy Trails Creative Writers. My name is Eddie Lamar Sharpe Jr. Wil invited me to the group and I am happy to be a part of your community.

Chains hanging down, they call it bling
Diamond studded ear stoppers, pinky Rings…
Trading in a future for their Concrete Dreams
Air Force Ones, a pair of top notch jeans
A shirt that is the epitome of fashion, and shades that gleam…
Trading in goals for their Concrete Dreams
Tinted Windows, TV screens, leather seats stitched with branded seams
24 inch chrome rims, with famous pop culture as the color schemes…
They traded in livelihood for Concrete Dreams
Genuine smiles covered up with “precious” metals, or so it seems
Hard eyes, mean mugs, with murder kill as the daily themes…
Swapping out Authenticity for Concrete Dreams
Blurry eyes, empty bottles barely maintaining a lean
Blowing out soul after puffs of the blunt, acting serene
Trading in health for Concrete dreams
Selling genocide to our people creating fiend after fiend
Chasing the loot, bread, guap, dough, anything after green…
Trading in responsibility for Concrete Dreams
Words used to describe our women is no less than Obscene
No matter how to justify what hoe, trick, or even bitch means
Using them to gratify sexual needs as the daily routines…
Trading in value of our queens for Concrete Dreams…
Sending deadly messages to youth, and those in the womb, unseen
Steadily wiping away the purity, leaving minds unclean…
Trading in Generations for Concrete Dreams
No hard work, looking for beanstalks in magic beans
Misinterpreting the chase for wealth to obtaining it by any means…
They traded in their Innocence for Concrete Dreams
Teardrops, Closed caskets, Mothers and Fathers Screams…
They traded in their LIFE for Concrete Dreams

I Am Royalty – Seeing Growth with Emmanuel Brown

I Am Royalty is a series of biographical anthologies that are compiled to serve as bridges throughout many different communities. The purposes of these bridges are to close gaps that are left in our communities and create productive routes for the people live within them.

Over 30 Black/African-American Men and Women have come together to bring Volume I of I Am Royalty to life, but we have over 30 more Black/African-American Men and Women that have shown the same form of common-unity to create Volume 2 which will immediately follow the release of Volume 1.
Volume 1 of I Am Royalty includes the stories of Mikal El-Amin, Aleta Williams, Toni Odom, Andrionna L. Williams-Campbell, Frank Pete, Angela Murphy, Angela Thomas, Pasha Golliday, Alan Gates, Vanessa Richardson, Winter Giovanni, Sherryl Hooks, Jonathan Burkett, Yolanda Zellous, Ava Ross, Renda Rose, Cleous Young, Diane Latiker, Shani Greene-Dowdell, Ayani Meli, William Jackson, Jacqueline Amos, Pam Osbey, Kezia Davis, Garry Lawrence, Lolita Buck, Nicole Shelton, Sharlisse Rashied, Glenn Grace, Kanday Reign, Katrina Lola- Gurl, April L. Johnson, Deondriea Cantrice, Donald Payne, Carolyn Mattocks, Nita Dawson, Adrienna Turner, & Emmanuel Brown.

Our mission is to take these stories into places that need positive light and spread these lights into some of darkest areas. We will share our stories throughout schools, churches, community groups, and throughout the streets to begin recruiting our youth for productive activities.

We have collaborated with Black/African-American Men and Women that represent different backgrounds, upbringings, fields of business, and options (for the future) that can be followed.

Please pick a copy today and share these stories with the youth that you come in contact with.

30 Minutes of Fame with Katrina & Nita

Author Aleta Williams

September’s book of the month by Author Aleta Williams, book entitled “Zipcodez 90002*90220” was an amazing turnout!

Zipcodes is shocking and uncensored sequence of events in the life of Debo and Lana growing up in two of Southern California’s most notorious neighborhoods, Watts and the city of Compton, sparks issues and raises controversy.
Steamy Trails Speaks had an opportunity to discussing our own views of the book, letting you all know why or why not you SHOULD buy this book!!!

Aleta L Williams was born in raised in Watts California by her father after her mother went home to be with the Lord; when Aleta was only six 1/2 years old. As a kid Aleta struggled with anger issues ; she stated “it was her defense tactic to protect her heart from the childhood pain and suffering she experienced” (witnessing her mother take her last breath had a big impact on it all). She use the same defense tactic to protect her wounded heart in adulthood. Despite the negative seeds adults planted and watered inside of her as a child, pre-teen and teen; she refused to allow those seeds to grow. Regardless of the mistakes that she made including bringing a child into the world at a young age, Aleta always knew that she would overcome her down falls.  It wasn’t then, and it shouldn’t be now;the norms “Teen-Age Pregnancy” however Aleta said, “Birthing my first born before I was of age was the best thing that ever happened to me; to be honest I think she saved me. I always knew what I was doing wasn’t right: gang banging, being disobedient, having that “I don’t care” mind set.
However it wasn’t until my first born came into the world that I gradually stop doing what I knew was wrong; what I knew I never wanted my child to witness and think it was ok! I was blessed to have a father who stayed by my side no matter how rebellious I was. It was because of my father that I was able to fulfill my promise I made to my self; which was not allow my child to go on welfare, to prove to those who counted me out wrong. Not only did he babysit while I worked but he also babysit while I went to school. And yes he had his wrongs just as any other parent; and I did fault his lack of parenting skills for some of my mishaps, but now that I’ve matured, I realize he did his best and I thank him for that. I’m also most grateful to my belated God Mother Cherry Debose and her Husband George Debose for introducing me to “Christ Jesus” then is when I began to understand all that I been through, all that I am, is because of God’s Mercy and Grace. Because of God I’m still standing! Because of God I wrote and published my first book Zipcodez 90002*90220 Dub ‘N’ Hub through my company “Alana Book Line” and is currently working on three other novels in-addition to that I’m happy with being an positive role model to my three children. And look forward in becoming an Inspirational/Motivational Christian Speaker to the women I consider “Like Me.”

“A Woman of Color”
Poetry By: Aleta Williams

Do they judge me because I am human and every one make mistakes or because I am a woman of color….
Do they judge me because somewhere in my address reads “South Central L.A”…or because I am a woman of color…..
Do they judge me because I only had a mother til the age of six and my father parenting skills never really taught right from wrong or because like most teenagers I struggled with the right and had no problem with wrong… maybe that’s why birthed my first child before I was grown…

Do they judge me because I use anger as a defense to keep from being hurt…or because all my father did was work..maybe that’s why I feel in love with the first guy that liked my skirt……

did all this transpire because I’ am a woman of color or because I’m a woman that had a taste of life ???????
What about now am I judge because I walk with my head held high. Or because I smile at the fact of being the daughter of the most high…..or because I’m a woman of color, a women who survived ….
